VUELTA A ANDALUCÍA #1

 

Andalucía sólo hay una.

 

La Vuelta a mi tierra empezó el domingo en la bellísima San Fernando, Cádiz. Un recorrido de seis kilómetros si más trascendencia que ser la inicial y que ganó Patrick Gretsch del Project 1t4i.

 

La etapa de hoy lunes ha viajado de las idílicas tierras gaditanas en Zahara de Los Atunes a la internacional Benalmádena. Definitivamente se han dejado las cortesías atrás y el Andalucía ha conseguido una victoria con el valentísimo Ramírez Abeja, quien se escapó casi desde el hotel: ¡en el kilómetro uno! Junto con Luis Ángel Maté, amigo de SPORT LAB, y William Routley han protagonizado una escapada que ha durado 200 kilómetros, toda la etapa, y de las que, si incluye a Contador, pasan a la Historia.

 

El pelotón ha luchado por intentar cazar a la escapada sin éxito. Sin embargo, ha pasado de un máximo de once minutos a tres segundos. En esa lucha pseudo fratricida entre los tres primeros, Ramírez Abeja ganó merecidamente.

 

Nuestro Juanjo Lobato entró quinto a la cabeza de un pelotón desbocado que, sin embargo, no pudo con las ansias de victoria del trío de cabeza. Delante de él y a menos de 20 metros, Freire, la referencia para Juanjo.

 

Según me dice, Freire ha pedaleado duro, pero, en esta ocasión, ha sido la experiencia del Campeón lo que ha batido en buena lid a Juanjo en su particular carrera entre dos. Una lección que no olvidará.

 

Mañana etapón con varios puertos, dos de primera, con final en Lucena, pueblo de Córdoba. De esta capital es el equipo Andalucía, por lo que, al menos, darán espectáculo como pocos saben.

 

¡Enhorabuena, Ramírez, enhorabuena, equipo Andalucía, enhorabuena, ciclismo!

 

Andalucía, there is only one.

 

My homeland´s Vuelta started back on the Sunday in San Fernando, Cádiz. A four miles course with no more relevance that being the initial one and that was won by Patrick Gretsch from the Project 1t4i.

 

Today Monday´s stage has run from the idyllic landscapes of Zahara de Los Atunes, Cádiz, to the international Benalmádena. Gone are the courtesies and the Andalucía team has achieved another victory thanks to the very brave Ramírez Abeja, who broke away right from the hotel: from kilometer one!. Along with Luís Ángel Maté, a SPORT LAB´s friend and William Routley, they starred a 125 miles breakaway, the whole of the stage, and of the ones that, if Contador was in it, would make History.

 

The peloton fought to chase the breakaway with no success. Nevertheless, it ranged from an eleven minutes peak to three seconds. In this pseudo fraternal fight among the three first, Ramírez Abeja won deservedly.

 

Our Juanjo Lobato arrived fifth ahead of a runaway bunch that, in spite of this, could not deal with the victory yearning of the front trio. Less than 60 feet ahead of him, Freire, Juanjo´s benchmark.

 

According to what Juanjo tells me, Freire pedaled hard, but, in this occasion, it has been the Champion´s experience what defeated Juanjo fair and squarely in their particular race between the two of them. A lesson he will never forget.

 

Tomorrow, hard stage with several passes, two of them of first category, arriving in Lucena, Córdoba, Spain. The Andalucía team is from this province, reason why, at least, the will offer us a great show as only a few can.

 

Congratulations, Ramírez, congratulations, Andalucía team, congratulations, cycling!

 

Di Andalusia ne esiste soltanto una.

 

 La Vuelta nella mia terra é iniziata Domenica nella bellissima San Fernando, Cadiz. Un tracciato di sei kilometri percorsi vittoriosamente da Patrick Gretsch del Project 1t4i.

 
 La tappa di oggi, lunedí, ha viaggiato dalle idilliache terre gaditane di Zahara de Los Atunes fino alla internazionale Benalmadena. Sono state messe da parte le cortesie iniziali e l´Andalucia ha ottenuto una vittoria con il bravissimo Ramírez Abeja, che ha iniziato la sua fuga quasi dall ´hotel: dal primo kilometro!! Insieme a Ángel Maté, amico di SPORT LAB, e William Routley si sono resi protagonisti di  una fuga lunga 200 kilometri, una tappa intera, una di quelle che, se includi Contador, passano alla storia.

 
 Il gruppo ha provato,senza esito,a raggiungere gli uomini in fuga. Nonostante ció, sono passati da un distacco massimo di 11 minuti a uno di 3 secondi. In questa lotta “pseudofratricida” tra i primi tre, Ramírez Abeja a vinto meritatamente.

  Il nostro Juanjo Lobato é entrato in quinta posizione,alla testa di un gruppo poco organizzato, sopraffatto dall´ansia di raggiungere il terzetto di testa. Davanti a lui, a meno di 20 metri, Freire, un riferimento per Juanjo.

Ascoltando ció che mi racconta Juanjo, Freire ha pedalato duro, ma, in questa occasione, é stata l´esperienza del Campionead aver la meglio su Juanjo nello speciale duello tra i due. Una lezione che non dimenticherá.

 
Domani un tappone con vari strappi, due dei quali di prima categoria, con finale a Lucena, un paese in provincia di Cordoba. Di questa cittá é il team Andalucía, e per questo, siamo sicuro, proveranno a dare spettacolo.

VUELTA A ANDALUCÍA #2

 

De nuevo gran día para el equipo Andalucía. Buffaz del Cofidís se escapa y es el Gran Jesús Rosendo el que en solitario se empeña en alcanzarlo en una marcha agónica en solitario que le pasa factura.

 

En la subida del Alto de La Virgen de Araceli, otro corredor del Andalucía, Adrián Palomares se engancha al grupo de cabeza y corona el puerto de primera en el grupo de los fuertes y entra a 21 segundos de Valverde que es el líder actual de la Vuelta a Andalucía.

 

Nuestro Juanjo Lobato habrá de esperar perfiles de etapa más propicios para él.

 

Mañana la carrera discurrirá entre Montemayor, Córdoba y Las Gabias, Granada con 157 kilómetros y tres puertos de tercera.

 

Felicidades, Valverde y equipo Andalucía.

 

 

A great day for the Andalucía team again. Buffaz from the Cofidís runs away and is the great Jesús Rosendo who standalonely fights to reach him at a agonic pace that tookt its toll.

 

Once in the Virgen de Araceli Pass, another recer from the Andalucía, Adrián Palomares, hooks the front pack and crowns the first category pass within the strongest group and arrives 21 seconds behind Valverde that is the current VUalta a Andalucía´s leader.

 

our Juanjo Lobato will have to wait for more according to him stage profiles.

 

The race will run tomorrow between Montemayor , Córdoba abd Las Gabias, Granada covering 100 miles and three third category passes.

Nuestro gran atleta y mejor amigo José Manuel Ortega, ha pasado por SPORT LAB para llevar a cabo sus tests habituales de control y para ajustar su im-presionante Specialized Shiv.

 

Este magnífico triatleta viaja desde la bellísima Ceuta a Granada para poder contar con nosotros, lo que le agradecemos y nos honra. Sólo puedo añadir que, si José Manuel fuera tan buen triatleta como persona, sería el nuevo Armstrong.

 

Our great athlete and better friend José Manuel Ortega, dropped by SPORT LAB to make his regular control tests and to adjust his amazing Specialized Shiv.

 

This great triathlete travels from the beautiful Ceuta to Granada to count on us, what we deeply thank and honours us. I can only state that, if José Manuel was as good triathlete as person, he would be the new Armstrong.

JOSÉ DIEGO JARA CAMPEÓN DEL MUNDO / JOSÉ DIEGO JARA WORLD CHAMPION

 

La historia del atleta SPORT LAB José Diego Jara es un ejemplo de superación, tesón y lucha contra todos los elementos. Debido a un lamentable accidente, José Diego sufre una lesión importantísima en su pierna que le impide montar en bicicleta con normalidad.


La UCI le reconoce la minusvalía y en esa condición participa en el 2007 en competiciones para ciclistas adaptados. Gana el Campeonato de España y acude al Mundial. En plena competición se entera de que la UCI le retira su licencia porque estiman que “tiene demasiada fuerza para correr en la categoría de adaptados”.


Tras una lucha difícil de describir, la UCI le vuelve a conceder la licencia para correr como ciclista adaptado en el 2009, pero se la vuelven a retirar en ese mismo año por similares razones a las esgrimidas en el 2007.


A estas alturas se le exige un informe para que la UCI determine de una vez por todas si es susceptible de correr en las categorías de corredores adaptados. Se le advierte que sólo aceptarán como válido el informe si proviene de los dos únicos centros en España que consideran con suficiente solvencia. Uno de ellos es SPORT LAB.


Una vez que la UCI recibe nuestro informe, decide, ahora sí, reconocer su minusvalía y acepta que corra en las competiciones correspondientes.


Tras una concentración de la selección de ciclismo adaptado en Segovia, el seleccionador decide que representará a España en el Campeonato del Mundo de Roskilde, Dinamarca en 2011.


Una vez allí, José Diego toma parte en una carrera en la que el único corredor con minusvalía en las piernas es él, los demás las tenían en las extremidades superiores. A pesar de todo, aprovecha la debilidad de sus rivales en el sprint final y deja atrás a ocho competidores para ganar claramente el Campeonato del Mundo en la categoría C-5.


No puedo añadir nada más para alabar su capacidad como deportista, su valía como persona y el orgullo que supone para SPORT LAB haber colaborado en la medida que nos corresponde.


Enhorabuena, José Diego.

 

 

The SPORT LAB athlete José Diego Jara is a clear example of overcoming, tenacity and fight against all odds. Due to a sad accident, José Diego suffers an important injury in his leg that keeps him from riding normally.

 

UCI admits his handicap and thus he takes part in 2007 in some races for adapted cyclists. He wins the Spanish Championship and attends the Worlds. Right within this competition, UCI retires his license as they consider that “he is too strong to race in handicapped categories”.

 

After a hard to describe fight, UCI gives him back his license in 2009, but they retire it again arguing similar reasons to the ones they put forward back in 2007.

 

At this point, UCI demands a report that once and for all states if he is likely to race handicapped athletes categories. He is warned that they will accept as valid a report coming only from the two unique centers in Spain that they consider solvent enough. One of them is SPORT LAB.

 

Once the UCI receives our report, they decide, definitely now, they acknowledge his physical disability and accept him to take part in the corresponding competitions.

 

After a camp in Segovia of the Spanish para-cycling team, the manager decides that he will represent Spain in the Worlds at Roskilde, Denmark.

 

Once there, José Diego takes part in a race in which he is the only  one who features a handicap in his legs whilst the rest of competitors do it in their upper body. In spite of it all, he makes the most of his rivals weakness and leave they eight all behind in a sprint to win the C-5 category World Championship.

 

I cannot add anything to praise his capacity as a sportsperson, his value as a person and the pride that means for SPORT LAB having collaborated as much as possible.

AERODYNAMICS TO THE LIMIT

 

As you know, air is this omnipresent and invisible enemy that keeps us from moving inside it. With a self-propelled by an engine vehicle there is no problem. Needed power to defeat air resistance grows exponentially with speed. We use more than the 95% of power to go through the air (yes, more than 95%). Car, plane, motorbike or similar device´s engines moves us effortlessly and, in spite of that most of the work is spent to beat air, there is still enough left to move the whole mass easily.


In the case of cyclists, it is the same but different. Cyclist´s power output is that and there is nothing else. It is not easy to increase it but through detailed training, controlled nutrition and time ahead. It happens the same with weight. The cyclist and its impedimenta cannot get lighter indefinitely. On one side it is the logic and required efforts that need of a muscular and skeletal mass. On the other side is the U.C.I. that says that racing bikes cannot weight under 14.9 pounds.


So, how can we scratch some seconds to the chrono? Right. Optimizing our aerodynamics. That is the reason why interest in this particular made bike and accessories makers to work their hearts out when it comes to hide cables, shape tubes, helmets, rims, shoes, etc. If all of this work makes you to take up 15 seconds of a time trial, you must think that sometimes they are won by hundredths of a second. We are talking about significant time gaps that sentenced Tours.


We already have an aerodynamic and light bike, light and aerodynamic componentry and a light and as powerful as possible cyclist. Put it all together.


Our cyclist is sat on the bike. The overall is moderately aerodynamic. If we change his/her position for he/she to be much more aerodynamic, we can get to a situation in which air penetration is clearly favored, but that goes against racer performance or health. We will reduce the overall frontal surface as much as we can but not at the expense of its optimal operation. This requires reaching a delicate balance through many tests. We will change the position and frontal surface and performance are to be measured. And thus as many times as needed.


The position on the bike can be changed as simply as modifying components position such as saddle, handlebar, cranks, etc. When it comes to obtain a frontal surface to be taken in account as a variable on our side, it is not that easy. So far, and not always, you used to take a picture of the cyclist from the front side and on his/her bike. A photo editing software determined the frontal area with an acceptable accuracy but though a slow and messy process.


The diligence and accuracy of this procedure have been drastically improved with a SPORT LAB in collaboration with fotografiacientifica.com designed proprietary device.


It is an enormous panel that gives out a special light, cause of its high price, in front of which a rack has been installed to attach the bike solidly and accurately enough to reject errors coming from placing the cyclist-bike unit in a different position in every measurement. A thick black curtain covers all of this structure so that we can eliminate the light dispersion that could distort measurements.


In front of this structure there is an exceptionally precise in its adjustments tripod and a camera with a lens that allows manual focusing and fixes it.  The camera is connected to a computer with a special software that, instantly and with a unknown precision in our activity, can feature an exact frontal area measurement. Any change can be detected, nothing escapes the camera, nothing.


Is it that bad? Yes, definetly yes. The accuracy level is astonishing. We have carried out measurements prior and after changes that could be discarded because of its apparent irrelevancy. No matter how incredible it seems, what you are about to read is reliable and scientifically checked. It is not a supposition, nor intuition nor it is influenced by any opinion, but it reflects what coldly analyzed data say.


With this premise firmly consolidated in our mind, the difference between the yes and no is quantified in frontal area percentage according to the following terms:


–          Shaved legs: +/- 2%-4%.


–          Shaved arms: +/- 1%-2%.


–          Front wheel properly aligned, that is, correctly tight by the skewer in the fork dropouts. If it is not properly aligned, this parameter variation could mean:


  • 0.1 degrees misalignment (imperceptible by the human eye): +/- 0.17%.
  • 0.5 degrees misalignment: +/- 0,85%.
  • 1 degree misalignment: +/- 1.71%.

–          Open elbows due to a narrow handlebar: +/- 1%-5%.


–          Open legs when pedaling: +/- 1%-5%.


–          Close little and ring finger around the handlebar: +/- 0.1%-0.2%.


In other words, if we shave arms and legs, if we hold the front wheel correctly in its attachment, if we do not open elbows and legs and if we wrap our fingers around the handlebar, we can reduce our frontal area up to an 18%.


Spoke number and shape, shoe and its buckles, pedal, frame, levers, handlebar and so on are also shapes to study with aerodynamics as a goal for its bigger negative impact. Needless to talk about helmet, clothing, position, the cyclist itself, ect. because, for what we saw, it is easy to imagine the brutal influence of these elements due to size reasons. Therefore, when we see that pro cyclists are (or should be) extremely careful with these variables, don´ t you think that is for no reason.


At SPORT LAB you can know immediately and with annoying precision the changes in your frontal surface and its influence on the use of cyclist´s performance. If it is not enough, the results coming from the invented by SPORT LAB device could be conveniently interpreted by some calculations and substitute with dignity a wind tunnel that costs about 2.000€ per hour, if there is any available nearer than 400 miles from home. 


Of course, nothing happens at random. In addition to the investment made in this device, and that exceeds the one you need for a car, you are to invent, design, make, and try/error it, all of them required to put at your disposal a powerful tool that allows you to reach an accuracy level inaccessible for some and needed for others.

PRESENTACIÓN VUELTA A ANDALUCÍA

 

Hoy 15 de febrero se ha llevado a cabo la presentación de la Vuelta a Andalucía en las instalaciones de La Fundación Cruzcampo en Sevilla. Han asistido todos los grandes equipos que la van a disputar, pero, como no, nos vamos a centrar en lo que nos interesa: Antonio Cabello, Manager del Equipo Andalucía, ha declarado que el equipo va a por la General y que Lobato a por etapas.

 

El equipo correrá con Palomares, Lobato, Rosendo, Cabello Baena Lechuga, Abeja y Veloso.

 

En la foto podemos ver a parte del equipo y al Excmo Sr. Consejero de Turismo y Deporte de La Junta de Andalucía D. Luciano Alonso Alonso.

 

El domingo empieza. Estad atentos.


 

Today, February the 15th, the Vuelta a Andalucía has been presented in the Cruzcampo Foundation facilities in Seville, Spain.  All the big teams that are to race have attended the event but, how else, we will focus on what we are interested in: Antonio Cabello, Andalucía Team Manager, stated that his team will fight for the Overall and Lobato for the stages.

 

The team will race including Palomares, Lobato, Rosendo, Cabello Baena Lechuga, Abeja and Veloso.

 

The picture displays part of the team along with His Honour the Junta de Andalucía´s Tourism and Sports Councilor Mr. Luciano Alonso Alonso.

 

The start on next Sunday. Stay tuned.

DAVID SÁNCHEZ RECIBE UNA BECA DEPORTIVA DE FIVE TEXTIL Y SPORT LAB

 

David Sánchez es un brillante atleta que, entre otros éxitos, ostenta el título de Campeón del Mundo de Biatlón y Subcampeón del Mundo de Biatlón en los Juegos para Policías y Bomberos en Vancouver 2009, Canadá. Además, ha sido varias veces Campeón de España de Biatlón, Campeón de Europa de Duatlón y Subcampeón del Mundo de Biatlón en Adelaida en 2007.


Los juegos para Policías y Bomberos son el mayor evento deportivo del mundo. Baste decir que en los Juegos Olímpicos de Pekín 2008 tomaron parte unos 10.000 atletas de 40 disciplinas diferentes y que en los Juegos para Policías y Bomberos de Nueva York 2011 han participado 15.000 atletas de 65 especialidades deportivas. Sobre su importancia habla el hecho de que los Juegos de Vancouver han sido el evento de mayor repercusión económica en Canadá en ese año.

DAVID SÁNCHEZ RICEVE UNA BORSA DI STUDIO SPORTIVA DA FIVE TEXTIL E SPORT LAB

 

David Sánchez é un brillante atleta che, tra i vari successi, vanta i titoli di Campione del Mondo di Biathlon e Vicecampione del Mondo di Duathlon per Poliziotti e Vigli del Fuoco a Vancouver 2009. Inoltre, è stato varie volte Campione di Spagna di Biathlon, Campione d´Europa di Duathlon e Vicecampione del Mondo ad Adelaide 2007.
