VUELTA XX &

Vuelta is over. Last two stages have been a mere procedure, except for the winners and Purito, who lost the green jersey. Sorry, my friend.

I have a strong feeling about a fair Vuelta in which winners are the ones who deserved it, that elevated as Gentlemen to the ones who already were and that only the ones who had to give up due to injuries or crashes have been hit by injustice. Many new faces have risen to the front row and we have met the heirs of the current generation. It happens every year, but not less new for this.

Now I am not about results, time, contracts (well, yes Cobo´s. Juicy, by the way). I am stuck to the sport and human show we lived these days in a Vuelta that lessened the Tour and in which cars don´t run over cyclist and run (again) away skipping help to injured and with the connivance of the (same) organization.

In spite of this stolen hospital color of the Spanish TV broadcasting, they have improved their day before´s summary every day, with smashing music and an images selection paired to Canal Plus´. I have enjoyed the transmission on TV as Javier Ares doesn´t do it on the radio any longer and because, far from making fire because of criteria and knowledge, TV commentators have also enjoyed sharing it and they have transmitted us their passion.

Within the final stage, Madrid appeared beautiful from the air as much for the ones abroad as for the ones we live here in the city that, paraphrasing my friend José Antonio, accepted me and that now is as mine as Granada. Madrid is not Paris, but needless.

I admire and envy those who earn their bucks doing what they like and, in addition, being successful. In other words, I envy Fernando Alonso´s remuneration, but more Emilio Botín´s. However, I´d rather be Fernando Alonso. During the Vuelta, this admiration and satisfaction feeling fulfilled me in all the occasions in which I saw an exhausted man smiling for the well-done job and accomplished goal. I don´t either forget about the ones who work in the shadow and, in spite of this, with a dedication and determination at the same height of their responsibilities. As much on the bike as off of it.

Finally, my most sincere congratulations to Cobo who he has won the Vuelta and coped with the ones who asked him about his depression every single day and that, according to what I heard over there, it could have destroyed Jim Carrey. It is clear that he had a bad period, that he is prone to fall down, but the cukcoo didn´t fly over his nest. Investigating his past and search through it only generates gorging and seedy news. Cobo is to look ahead as he did in the Angliru. I am glad to see him so well and I hope that it is for good. He only needs somebody who helps him not to wear his helmet as a broad-brimmed hat.

Matxín picked the fruit of his work and returned all what was invested to such an important sponsor as Geox that, moreover of putting their money in a such a needed of trust demonstrations sport like ours, makes warm and cozy shoes. Congratulations. By the way, Mr. Moretti, my shoe size is 42.

Don´t you never forget that Cobo used a 32 in the rear. This is an inflexion point in current cycling. We will hear of it. Be patient.

All and all, I have enjoyed the 2011 Three Bigs. There is less left for 2012´s.
